Немногие знают о существовании среди многочисленных (книги, картинки, продукты и т.д.) поисковых ресурсов Google такого как Google Patents.


Google Patents - специализированная поисковая система, предназначенная (пока что) для работы только с патентами США. Методика поиска в Google Patents аналогична методике поиска в Google.


Патентное ведомство США (USPTO) и Google объединились, с целью массового обеспечения бесплатного публичного доступа к данным о патентах и торговых марках.


Заместитель министра торговли и директор Патентного ведомства США (USPTO) Дэвид Каппос объявил 2 июня о том, что USPTO заключила некоммерческое 2-летнее соглашение с Google с целью сделать открытые данные по патентам и торговым маркам массово доступными общественности в электронном виде. Согласно этому соглашению, USPTO будет передавать Google существующие электронные файлы, которые Google будет предоставлять общественности без изменений и бесплатно. Эти данные доступны на сайте Google patents.
